Hey girl hey! This natural hair journey that I have been on has been a whole process. If you're already a part of the #happytobenappy crew, then you know exactly what I mean.
In a nutshell, your hair only needs 6 products to remain healthy: shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, daily moisturizer, and oils .
I have type 4 hair which means my curl pattern is more wound and kinky. And because my hair does what it wants, I have both 4b and 4c hair. Basically put...I have two different curl patterns going on where the top is more curly and defined, while the back is way more kinky and thick. And to top it all off, I have low porosity hair. This means that my hair is reluctant to soak in and retain moisture.
So yeah, I have a lot going on up there and it only took forever to find products that consistently yielded great results with my hair. And because naturalistas need to stick together, I figured I'd share. Keep in mind that the links in this post are affiliate links and if you go through them to make a purchase, I will earn a small commission. But whether or not you decide to buy something, that is completely up to you.
1. Shampoo
2. Conditioner: Argan Oil Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner
It took me FOR-EV-VER to find a shampoo and conditioner of the same brand that my hair responded to. I like how these products give me a nice lather and they don't leave my hair feeling stringy as a lot of other ones that I've tried in the past have done.
3. Leave-in Conditioner: Aunt Jackie's Quench Leave-in Conditioner
The name speaks for itself! My hair's need for moisture is definitely quenched with this. It doesn't sit on top of my hair either. It actually soaks in and holds for hours.
4. Deep Conditioner: Cantu Deep Conditioner Masque
I found that after every child that I had, my hair would have a moment where it had to readjust to the products I was using. Cantu products in general have always been hit and miss with my hair, but their deep conditioner has always given me great results.
5. Daily Moisturizer: Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1 Miracle Moisturizer
This product is really great for 14 different things. Not only does it moisturize, but it is a curl activator and a detangler as well. I like how it defines my kinky curls even though it has different textures. Killing MANY birds with one stone with this one!
6. Oils: Black Jamaican Castor Oil
Because my hair has a hard time retaining moisture, thick oils are my friend. This one is my fav because of its thickness, and I like how it doesn't weight down my hair. A little of this goes a long way.

And I'm no product junky, but these other products are good to keep on hand to keep the kinks and curls in line too.
Twisting Cream: Creme of Nature Moisture Whip Twisting Cream
This is a new bae in my life, but I promise since day one, my hair has loved it! I can literally pull off a twist out for 1-3 days just by using it once.
2. Edge Control: Gorilla Snot
Sis, just trust me on this one. I strictly use this for my edges and not as hair gel.
3. Protein treatment: Olive Oil Cholesterol
This is so old school. But like the saying goes, if it aint broke, don't fix it! Protein treatments help your hair grow strong by reducing breakage and preventing split ends.
I hope that this was helpful and that your next wash day is amazing! Sharing is caring, so share with a naturalista friend!
